Each chip is connected to an ID number, which is recovered with a low-frequency radio wave scanner. It looks similar to the handheld scanners used in grocery stores. After the ID number is retrieved, the veterinary team or shelter who has your pet can contact the chip’s manufacturer. They’re able to share the pet recovery database it is connected to, which can provide your contact information. Next, you’ll be contacted so you can be reunited with your pet. It’s important to ensure your contact information is updated in the database so you’ll be contacted using the right information.

What other steps can I take to protect my pet?
