Beaker is having a COHAT which is also known as a Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment. This describes the whole process of the dentistry from admission of the patient to the discharge which includes everything you will see in our video. During this process, the pet is assessed for plaque, gingivitis, calculus, periodontal disease as well as other oral disease. The teeth are given a cleaning and polishing and Xrays are taken for an assessment below the gums. This is essential as often what you see above the gum line is very different than below. A proper cleaning can ONLY be done while the pet is under anesthesia. Cleaning above the gum line can provide a false sense of security that the tooth is healthy when below there can be active disease which can get worse when left untreated. Regular dental assessments by your veterinarian are essential to maintaining your pet’s health.
